KEEP PENOBSCOT BAY WATCH GOING!

Since 1992, Penobscot Bay Watch has worked to meet the information needs of those around Penobscot Bay and the greater Gulf of Maine who stand up for the natural world in their 'backyards' when those places are menaced.

Penobscot Bay Watch helps groups and individuals find the facts they need to inform their arguments when they run up against such challenges in their backyards, helps them interact with the local, state and federal agencies that approve or deny development or discharge permits and licenses, and helps them bring their campaigns to the attention of the public, the media and government decision makers.

Depending on the situation, this includes:

* Setting up listserves and websites for grassroots groups, helping them interact with the staffers of the various state and federal agencies that hold the Gulf of Maine region in their regulatory hands; and/or

* Filing Freedom Of Information Act requests when asked, and posting the results online; and/or

* Videotaping, photographing and/or audio-recording environmental conferences and gatherings, municipal, state and federal public hearings and legislative committee hearings, then airing them on radio, cable and the world wide web or distributing them as tapes and cds; and/or

* Arranging free overflights for activists and decisionmakers to both get a bird's eye view of their locations of concern and to photo- & video-document those places; and/or

* Sending media advisories and releases on events or actions that might not otherwise make it to the attention of the public;

Keep your money. Give us your stuff. Take a look in your attic, basement, closets and back yard and see if any of the following are around and capable of being let go of or loaned: Binoculars, hand held GPS, marine radio, AA batteries, blank CD disks, recycled paper, a newer-than-windows-98 PC computer, navigation charts of Penobscot Bay, a dinghy, a sea kayak, a zodiac inflatable and/or a skiff, rubber mud boots; plankton net, pH meter.

Keep your stuff. Give us your time: Host a Bay Watch mission aboard your vessel. Make your privately owned shoreline available for invasives monitoring. Help organize a decade's worth of indifferently organized files, photos and videotapes chronicling our efforts.
