Back to Maine State Prison Watch.

August 14, 2007 letter from Maine state prison inmate Deane Brown, writing from exile at the Maryland Correctional Adjustment Center (MCAC) . Last September, Maine Governor John Baldacci approved the exiling of Maine state prison inmate activist and gadfly Deane Brown to be exiled to this high security state prison in Baltimore, in violation of both civil rights law and the Maine and U.S. Constitutions.

As of August 19, 2007, Brown, who was sentenced in 1995 to 59 years for burglary, remains held at the MCAC. For "security reasons" Brown is barred from use of a telephone relating to long-resolved investigations that cleared him of any involvement in a prison escape attempt last year. Efforts to bring Deane home from exile continue.
